Wyatt Wagner got it
all started, and Matt Couch finished.
Lindenwald’s Security Lock pitchers hurled a no-hitter against
the Millville Indians in a 10-0 run-rule victory Saturday
afternoon at Joyce Park.
“I felt good today,” said Wyatt, who struck out nine batters and
only walked one in four innings of work. “Nobody got mad at each
other, and we played together as a team.”
Despite a 2 hour, 15 minute delay due to field conditions, Wyatt
said he wasn’t fazed.
He fanned six of his first eight batters before walking
Millville shortstop Asia Beard in the third inning. Beard stole
second, which was as far as the Indians (3-2) would get.
“It wasn’t our hitting today, it was pitching that did it for
us,” Security Lock manager Mike Withrow said. “We came out ready
to play.”
Things shaped out
differently two weeks ago. Security Lock (2-4) was handed a 9-8
loss against the Indians in extra innings at Millville.

“The other team hit the ball well today, and they had some
great pitching,” Indians manager Jeff Spitaleri said. “We
escaped one against them last time, but we have to give them
all the credit. We’re not taking anything away from them.”
Wagner went 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored for
Security Lock, while Jake Stephens (three hits, three runs),
Couch (2-for-4, two runs), Alex DeShano (run, two RBI), Will
Wagner (single, RBI) and Blake Burns (two walks, two stolen
bases) contributed as well.
Indians starting pitcher Dakota Byrd struck out five
Lindenwald batters, while relief pitcher Johnny Winterrod
fanned two.
“We hit good pitches and paid attention to our signals,”
Wagner said. “Today was our day.”
